Choosing a CPAP mask for sleep apnea - Complete guide
Your CPAP mask is the most comfort-critical component of your therapy. There are three main types: full face mask, nasal mask and nasal pillow mask. Each has advantages depending on your sleeping style and breathing pattern.
The three types of CPAP masks
- Full face mask: covers both nose and mouth - ideal for mouth breathers. E.g. AirFit F20, AirFit F40
- Nasal mask: covers the nose only - good balance between comfort and seal for nasal breathers. E.g. AirFit N20, DreamWear Nasal
- Nasal pillow mask: miniature cushions inside the nostrils - ideal for side sleepers and those with beards. E.g. AirFit P10
There is no universally best mask. The right choice depends on your sleeping position, breathing pattern (nasal or mouth), facial structure and CPAP pressure setting.
Mask comparison table
