Philips Respironics
Philips Respironics is the sleep & respiratory brand of the Philips group, born from the acquisition of Respironics (Pittsburgh, 1976) in 2008. You'll find the DreamStation 2 — next-generation auto-adjusting CPAP — and the DreamWear, DreamWisp and Pico masks, recognized for their innovative design.

Philips Respironics: the Philips group's sleep tech
Philips Respironics is the division dedicated to sleep apnea and respiratory care of the Philips group, founded in 1891 in Eindhoven (the Netherlands). The brand was created through the acquisition of Respironics in 2008 — an American CPAP specialist based in Murrysville (Pennsylvania) and founded in 1976.
This dual heritage, Philips R&D and Respironics medical expertise, gives the brand a premium position in masks (DreamWear range) and connected therapy (DreamStation 2).
The Philips Respironics selection at VivaRespire
- CPAP machine: DreamStation 2 Auto Advanced with built-in humidifier and touchscreen
- Nasal masks: DreamWear nasal (tube on top of the head), Pico, DreamWisp (cushion under the nose)
- Full face mask: DreamWear Full Face
The DreamWear design, a mask that stands out
The DreamWear range is one of the most recognizable mask designs on the market. The tube runs over the top of the head rather than across the face. In practice:
- clear field of vision to read or watch a screen before sleep
- no interference when sleeping on your side or stomach
- fewer pressure marks on the face in the morning
Three variants share the same frame: DreamWear nasal, DreamWear nasal pillows and DreamWear Full Face. You can change just the cushion without replacing the headgear — convenient for trying another configuration later.
DreamStation 2: the post-2021 generation
The DreamStation 2, launched in 2021, is more compact and quieter than the original. It includes a built-in touchscreen and heated humidifier (optional on the DreamStation 1). Its sound abatement is based on a silicone material, distinct from the PE-PUR foam that was the subject of the June 2021 voluntary recall.
Note on the June 2021 voluntary recall
In June 2021, Philips Respironics issued a recall on certain earlier models (DreamStation 1, several BiPAPs and ventilators) due to potential degradation of the PE-PUR sound abatement foam. The DreamStation 2 and the masks (DreamWear, DreamWisp, Pico) are not affected. If you own a DreamStation 1, contact your provider or Philips to learn the replacement procedure.
Your questions about Philips Respironics
The brand combines Philips R&D with Respironics' medical heritage in CPAP since 1976. Its strengths: the DreamWear range (one of the most innovative mask designs on the market) and the DreamStation 2 (auto-adjusting CPAP with built-in humidifier and connectivity).
The DreamStation 2 is more compact, quieter, includes a touchscreen and a heated humidifier as standard (optional on the DreamStation 1). It uses a new silicone-based sound abatement, distinct from the PE-PUR foam recalled in 2021.
Most likely yes if you bought it before June 2021. The recall concerns the PE-PUR sound abatement foam. To check, find the serial number on the back of the device and consult the Philips website or your provider. Replacement with a DreamStation 2 (which does not use this material) is usually offered free of charge.
It depends on how you breathe at night. If you breathe through your nose, the DreamWear nasal or pillows works very well. If you also breathe through your mouth, go for the DreamWear Full Face. The frame is shared across all three: you can swap just the cushion if you want to try another configuration later.
Yes. All Philips Respironics masks use a standard 22 mm connector. They plug into any CPAP: ResMed AirSense, Löwenstein Prisma, Fisher & Paykel and so on. You can perfectly use a DreamWear with a non-Philips CPAP.
Yes. Philips offers the DreamMapper app (iOS and Android), free of charge. It shows your usage time, score, detected leaks and provides personalized advice. The DreamStation 2 connects via Bluetooth or built-in cellular (depending on configuration).
Manufacturer warranty is 2 years on the DreamStation 2 and 90 days on mask cushions (consumables). Headgear is generally warranted for 6 months. Keep your VivaRespire invoice to claim warranty service.
