Medistrom, the CPAP battery specialist

Medistrom focuses on a single use case: powering a CPAP without a wall socket. The company designs and manufactures portable lithium batteries that take over from the mains, for travel, camping or to keep your therapy running during a power outage.

Medistrom is distributed by Choice One Medical Inc., a Canadian manufacturer and distributor of respiratory medical accessories founded in 2015 in Toronto. European distribution runs through the Netherlands (Rijen).

The Pilot range

  • Pilot Flex: the most compact. Dual voltage (12 V / 24 V), compatible with most travel CPAPs including the ResMed AirMini.
  • Pilot-12 Lite: for 12 V CPAPs (Philips Respironics DreamStation, some DeVilbiss and Apex models).
  • Pilot-24 Lite: for 24 V CPAPs (ResMed AirSense 10, AirSense 11, AirCurve).
  • Cables and adapters: device-specific connectors.

All Pilot batteries are FAA / IATA-approved for air travel and fit in cabin baggage.

Choosing your Medistrom battery

The main criterion is your CPAP voltage. Check the power supply that came with your machine:

  • 24 V: all recent ResMed devices (AirSense 10, AirSense 11, AirMini with adapter, AirCurve)
  • 12 V: Philips Respironics DreamStation and BiPAP, several DeVilbiss models
  • Dual voltage: Pilot Flex covers both, ideal if you change devices

Real-world battery life depends on your therapy pressure and humidifier use. Expect roughly one full night at average pressure (around 10 cmH₂O) without humidification, or a shorter night if the heated humidifier is on. For two nights without mains, consider disabling the humidifier or carrying a second battery.

The ResMed AirSense 11 is a 24 V device. Two compatible options: the Pilot-24 Lite (dedicated 24 V model, higher capacity) or the Pilot Flex (dual voltage, more compact). The Pilot-24 Lite is usually the best capacity-to-size compromise at home or for regular travel.

Battery life depends on your therapy pressure and humidifier. As a guide: one full night (8 h) at average pressure (10 cmH₂O) without heated humidification. With heated humidifier on, expect 4-5 hours. For two nights, plan for two batteries or disable humidification.

Yes, but the heated humidifier draws a lot of energy and roughly halves runtime. If you travel and need a full night, switch the humidifier off. At home as backup, keep it on as long as you recharge the battery regularly.

Yes. The full Pilot range complies with FAA and IATA standards for cabin baggage. The batteries sit below the 100 Wh threshold accepted without paperwork by most airlines. Keep the battery in cabin baggage, not in the hold.

Plan 4 to 6 hours for a full mains recharge depending on the model. The Pilot Flex recharges faster than the Pilot-12/24 Lite thanks to its compact format. All can also recharge from a 12 V car socket, useful for road trips.

The Lite range is more compact and lighter, optimized for travel and one night of runtime. The Plus range has higher capacity and can also power other devices (phone, tablet). For most CPAP users, the Pilot Lite and Pilot Flex are enough and easier to carry.

Medistrom batteries come with a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Useful life depends on charge cycles: expect 500 to 800 full cycles before capacity drops below 80%. To extend battery life, avoid storing it at 0% or 100% for long periods.
