Sefam
Sefam is a French CPAP manufacturer based near Nancy. A pioneer in continuous positive airway pressure with its first device back in 1984, Sefam designs and manufactures sleep apnea diagnosis and therapy devices in France. Its Néa CPAP is the only foam-free CPAP on the market, and its EcoStar remains a reference in fixed-pressure therapy.

Sefam, 40 years of French CPAP expertise
Sefam (Société d'Études et de Fabrication d'Appareillage Médical) is a French medical device manufacturer specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep-disordered breathing. The company has been designing, manufacturing and marketing its products since 1984.
Sefam's history is closely tied to CPAP therapy itself: the brand claims it built one of the first industrial CPAP devices for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome back in 1984. Its products are now used in more than 60 countries.
Made in France: a rare asset in the CPAP market
Almost all CPAP devices sold in Europe are made in Australia, the United States, New Zealand or Germany. Sefam is an exception: design and production happen in France, in the Nancy region.
Three concrete benefits for European patients:
- Responsive technical service: spare parts and aftersales handled close by
- Native European compliance: all devices are designed to EU/CE standards
- Recognized expertise in French and Belgian sleep centers
The Sefam selection at VivaRespire
- Fixed-pressure CPAP: EcoStar, a robust fixed-pressure device, ideal for an established therapy
Other Sefam models (Néa CPAP, Néa AutoPAP, Range Diagnosis platform) will be added to our catalog soon.
Néa: the first foam-free CPAP on the market
Sefam's flagship is the Néa, presented as the first and only foam-free CPAP on the market. Sefam chose to remove all internal sound-absorbing foam in favor of a different mechanical design.
Why this matters: since Philips Respironics' voluntary recall of June 2021 (PE-PUR foam degradation), the safety of internal materials in CPAP devices has become a vigilance topic for patients. A foam-free CPAP simply removes the question.
The Néa is available in fixed-pressure (CPAP) and auto-adjusting (AutoPAP) versions, with built-in humidifier.
Why choose Sefam
- 40 years of specialization in sleep and CPAP, not a generalist manufacturer
- French production, full traceability and continental aftersales
- Foam-free innovation with the Néa, unique on the market
- Coherent catalog: diagnosis + therapy + monitoring
Your questions about Sefam
Yes. Sefam CPAPs are designed and manufactured in France, near Nancy. It is one of very few European CPAP manufacturers that produces locally, while most of the market comes from Australia, the United States, New Zealand or Germany.
Most CPAPs use internal foam to dampen turbine noise. In 2021, Philips Respironics had to recall millions of DreamStation 1 units because of potential degradation of this foam (PE-PUR). The Sefam Néa is designed without any internal foam, eliminating that risk by design.
The EcoStar is a fixed-pressure CPAP: your prescription sets a single pressure, the device delivers it all night. It is robust and simple. The Néa comes in fixed and auto-adjusting (AutoPAP) versions, with built-in humidifier and the foam-free design. The Néa is newer and more premium.
Yes. Sefam CPAPs use a standard 22 mm connector, like the rest of the market. You can pair them with a ResMed mask (AirFit, AirTouch), Philips (DreamWear), Fisher & Paykel or Löwenstein, with no special adapter.
Yes. Sefam is widely used by sleep centers in France and Belgium, and in more than 60 countries. The brand equips both hospitals and home healthcare providers.
Manufacturer warranty is 2 years on Sefam devices. Filters are replaced every 1 to 6 months depending on environment, and consumables (tubes, masks) according to their use. Keep your VivaRespire invoice to claim warranty service.
Yes. Like all modern CPAPs, Sefam models accept voltages from 100 to 240 V. You only need a plug adapter for the country. For air travel, check whether your model is FAA-approved and prefer cabin baggage to avoid impact.
