ResMed, the creator of modern CPAP therapy

Founded in 1989 in Sydney by Peter Farrell, ResMed is a pioneer of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. The company brought large-scale CPAP treatment for obstructive sleep apnea to the mainstream and continues to invest heavily in R&D to improve its devices.

Listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: RMD) and on the Australian ASX, ResMed equips patients in more than 140 countries today. Its myAir™ and AirView™ software ecosystem transformed therapy follow-up: every connected device sends its encrypted data to both the patient and the prescribing physician.

Why choose a ResMed CPAP

ResMed is not the only serious manufacturer on the market, but it combines the broadest catalog, the most mature algorithms and the most polished software ecosystem. For a patient starting therapy or looking for a second device for travel, ResMed remains a safe bet.

ResMed masks come in classic versions (AirFit) and soft fabric versions (AirTouch), with a For Her variant on some references for slimmer face shapes. The AirSense 11 and AirMini machines share the same usage logic: quick start, clear screen, myAir support.

Your questions about ResMed

ResMed combines the widest catalog on the market, mature algorithms (AutoSet has been around for over 20 years) and a polished software ecosystem (myAir, AirView). It is the brand most used by sleep centers worldwide, which also makes finding replacement masks and accessories easier.

Yes. All ResMed masks (AirFit, AirTouch) use a standard 22 mm connector. They plug into any CPAP on the market: Philips Respironics, Löwenstein, Fisher & Paykel or any other.

Not necessarily. The AirSense 10 is still an excellent device and continues to be supported by ResMed. Moving to the 11 is worth it if you want a touchscreen, the new myAir app and remote setting updates from your prescriber. Otherwise, keep your AirSense 10 as long as it works.

Yes. CPAP is a class IIa medical device. In most European countries, purchase requires a prescription from a doctor (general practitioner, pulmonologist or sleep specialist) stating the prescribed pressure or auto mode use.

A well-maintained ResMed device lasts 5 to 8 years on average. Filters are replaced every 1 to 6 months depending on the model, masks every 6 to 12 months, and tubing every 6 to 12 months as well. The machine itself needs little maintenance: regular external cleaning and a filter dust check are enough.

The ResMed brand is widely used by INAMI/RIZIV-approved sleep centers, but reimbursement runs through the CPAP convention, not through direct purchase. If you buy your device from VivaRespire, you are outside the convention: you own the device, but without health insurance intervention.

Yes. The AirSense 11 and AirMini are FAA-approved for air travel. Electrically, they accept any voltage from 100 to 240 V (with a plug adapter depending on the country). The AirMini is also very compact, designed specifically for travel.
