CPAP Batteries & Chargers
CPAP batteries and chargers let you use your device anywhere: traveling, camping, during a power outage, or to replace a faulty power supply. A Medistrom Pilot travel battery provides a full night of autonomy without mains. A 12V/24V converter plugs your CPAP into the car cigarette socket.
At VivaRespire: 65W power supply for AirSense 11 (replacement), 12V/24V converter for AirSense 11 (cigarette adapter). Medistrom Pilot batteries coming soon.
Our catalog CPAP Batteries & Chargers
Electrical autonomy is often overlooked in CPAP: you forget about it as long as a wall socket is at hand, and remember it on a weekend trip, during a blackout, or when the power supply fails. This category gathers everything you need to never be caught off guard.
Three main use cases: home backup (power outage), travel mobility (plane, train, hotel without convenient outlet), outdoor autonomy (camping, van, cruise).
The 3 product categories
- Travel batteries (coming soon): Medistrom Pilot Lite, Pilot-24 Lite, Pilot Flex. Last a full night at average pressure without heated humidification. FAA-approved for flying.
- Replacement power supplies: to replace a faulty unit or have a spare at home. 65W AirSense 11 power supply.
- 12V/24V cigarette converters: to plug your CPAP in a car, camper, boat. 12V/24V converter for AirSense 11.
Which battery for my CPAP?
Compatibility depends on your CPAP voltage, indicated on the power supply label:
- 24 V: all ResMed AirSense 10, 11, AirCurve, AirMini (with adapter). Choose a Pilot-24 Lite or Pilot Flex battery.
- 12 V: Philips Respironics DreamStation, BiPAP, some DeVilbiss. Choose a Pilot-12 Lite or Pilot Flex.
- Dual voltage: the Pilot Flex covers 12V and 24V — ideal if you have multiple CPAPs or change devices.
Typical Medistrom battery autonomy
- Pressure 8 cmH₂O, no humidification: 1.5 to 2 nights
- Pressure 10 cmH₂O, no humidification: 1 full night (8 h)
- Pressure 12 cmH₂O, no humidification: ~7 hours
- Average pressure, heated humidification on: 4-5 hours (humidifier consumes a lot)
For two nights without recharge, disable heated humidification or plan two batteries.
Flying with your battery
Pilot batteries are FAA and IATA-approved for air travel. A few rules:
- Always in cabin baggage, never in hold
- Below the 100 Wh threshold accepted without paperwork by most airlines
- Capable of one full night if you take a long-haul flight
- Bring the certification/manual for airport security if asked
Frequently asked questions about CPAP batteries and chargers
The AirSense 11 is a 24V device. Two choices: the Pilot-24 Lite (dedicated model, higher capacity) or the Pilot Flex (dual voltage, more compact). The Pilot-24 Lite is generally the best compromise for home or regular travel. The Pilot Flex is perfect for frequent flyers.
For a Medistrom Pilot-24 Lite at average pressure (10 cmH₂O) without humidification: one full night, about 8 hours. With heated humidification on: 4-5 hours (humidifier halves runtime). For 2 nights, plan 2 batteries or disable humidification.
Yes. Medistrom Pilot batteries are FAA and IATA-approved for cabin baggage. They are below the 100 Wh threshold accepted by default by most airlines. Important: always cabin, never hold (safety rule). Keep the certification with you in case airport security asks.
With a 12V/24V cigarette adapter specific to your CPAP model. The converter transforms the car's 12V into 24V (or 12V depending on your CPAP) compatible with your device. Ideal for camper, road trips, cruises (boats often have 12V like cars). Important: keep the engine running, otherwise you drain the car battery in a few hours.
First check: (1) the wall socket works (test with a lamp), (2) the cable isn't damaged, (3) the CPAP-side connector is clean and properly seated. If all OK and device won't power on, the supply is dead. Solution: order a replacement 65W supply compatible with your model. The original ResMed supply costs €60-80 and ships in 48h.
Expect €250-400 for a Medistrom Pilot battery depending on model (Lite or Flex). It's a lasting investment: 500-800 charge cycles, meaning 5-8 years of use before capacity drops below 80%. For someone traveling 4-5 times a year, it pays back in 2-3 years vs less reliable solutions.
Worth it if you live: (1) in a rural area with frequent outages, (2) in a region where weather regularly causes power cuts, (3) if your apnea is severe and a CPAP-less night significantly impacts your health (drowsiness, hypertension). Otherwise, rare once-a-year outages = not essential. The Medistrom Pilot can be left fully charged as a dedicated CPAP UPS.
No. The 12V/24V converter is specific to the CPAP model because the power connector differs between manufacturers (ResMed, Philips, Löwenstein each have their own proprietary plug). Check your model carefully before ordering. On the car side, the other end is a universal standard cigarette plug.
