Sleep apnea CPAP treatment - Guide for Belgium's German-speaking Community
This page is primarily designed for German-speaking residents of Belgium (Deutschsprachige Gemeinschaft) seeking information on sleep apnea and CPAP treatment. A full guide is available in German above. Below is an English summary for international visitors.
What is sleep apnea?
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a chronic condition characterised by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. These pauses fragment sleep, cause excessive daytime sleepiness and increase long-term cardiovascular risk. The condition is diagnosed through a sleep study measuring the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI).
CPAP treatment
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is the gold-standard treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. The device keeps your airways open by delivering slightly pressurised air throughout the night. The result: no more apneas, no more snoring, restorative sleep.
RIZIV/INAMI convention in Belgium
In Belgium, the RIZIV/INAMI convention allows a CPAP device to be provided on loan by an accredited centre - the patient never owns the device. VivaRespire offers direct purchase outside the convention: you own your device and choose freely among top models. More information: CPAP reimbursement Belgium.
