CPAP Masks for Women
CPAP masks for women (the For Her range) are adapted versions of standard masks, with smaller cushions, headgear sized for slimmer features, and a design tailored to female facial contours. They address a real need: sleep apnea in women remains underdiagnosed, and universal masks don't always fit smaller frames properly.
At VivaRespire, find the ResMed For Her references: AirFit F20 For Her (full face), AirFit P10 For Her (nasal pillow), Mirage FX For Her (nasal) and Swift FX For Her.
Our catalog CPAP Masks for Women
Female sleep apnea has long been overlooked by medicine, perceived as a male obese snorer's condition. Recent studies show a different reality: up to 50% of women after age 50 are affected, with often atypical symptoms (chronic fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, morning headaches) that delay diagnosis by several years.
And once diagnosed, you still need a mask that fits. That's where For Her masks come in: smaller cushions, finer-strap headgear, and more discreet colors than the male versions.
Why a women's CPAP mask?
Women's morphology is on average:
- finer at the nose, cheekbones and jawline
- narrower nasal bridge and more delicate
- smaller nostril diameter
- smaller head circumference (headgear that loosens less)
A "universal" CPAP mask in size S may seem to fit, but For Her versions offer more precise fitting with fewer leaks and fewer pressure marks. Over time (5+ years of therapy), it's a real gain in comfort and adherence.
For Her models at VivaRespire
- ResMed AirFit F20 For Her: female version of the global best-seller. InfinitySeal cushion in S/SW (small wide), finer headgear with soft colors. Ideal for women who breathe through the mouth or have CPAP pressure >14 cmH₂O.
- ResMed AirFit P10 For Her: THE female bestseller. Nasal pillows in XS/S, fine-strap headgear, colored design. The lightest and most discreet on the market. Perfect for low-moderate pressure and side sleeping.
- ResMed Mirage FX For Her: female version of Mirage FX, classic nasal. S cushion, fitted headgear. The mid-size compromise for most women in therapy.
- ResMed Swift FX For Her: "active" version of the nasal pillow with more stable headgear, ideal for women who move a lot at night or have long hair (straps don't tangle).
Sleep apnea in women: what to know
Women often develop sleep apnea after menopause due to estrogen decline (hormone that maintains pharyngeal muscle tone). Typical female symptoms differ from men's:
- Unexplained chronic fatigue rather than marked daytime drowsiness
- Insomnia or frequent night awakenings
- Morning headaches
- Anxiety, treatment-resistant depression
- Snoring often absent or very mild
- Resistant depression or mood disorder
If you recognize these signs, talk to your doctor and ask for a sleep study (polygraphy or polysomnography). More info on our dedicated page: Sleep apnea in women.
The AutoSet for Her algorithm on ResMed CPAPs
In addition to For Her masks, ResMed developed a specific algorithm for auto CPAPs, the AutoSet for Her, integrated in the AirSense 11 AutoSet and the AirMini. This algorithm accounts for flow-limited apneas more common in women and often undertreated by standard algorithms.
Frequently asked questions about CPAP masks for women
The absolute female best-seller is the AirFit P10 For Her: nasal pillow, ultra-light (76 g), with XS/S pillows and fine headgear. If you breathe through the mouth, go for the AirFit F20 For Her (full face). For a classic nasal mask, the Mirage FX For Her is the safe bet.
A classic size-S mask has the same structure as M or L, just scaled down. A For Her mask is fundamentally redesigned for female morphology: finer straps, adjusted headgear dimensions, cushion redesigned for female facial contours, and often more discreet colors/finishes. Over time, it's a real gain in comfort and fewer leaks.
Yes, much more than commonly thought. Before menopause, women are protected by estrogen which maintains pharyngeal tone. After menopause, risk catches up to men's: up to 50% of women over 50 would be affected per recent studies. The problem: female symptoms (fatigue, insomnia, depression, headaches) are often attributed to other causes (stress, menopause, depression), delaying diagnosis by 5-10 years on average.
Technically yes, but not ideally. Universal S/M masks suit many women, but headgear remains calibrated for larger morphologies. Result: straps that loosen at night, leaks, pressure marks. For Her solves these issues with proportional design from A to Z. If you tried a classic mask without satisfaction, switching to For Her is often decisive.
It's a female-specific algorithm built into ResMed CPAPs (AirSense 11 AutoSet, AirMini). It accounts for flow-limited apneas more common in women, often missed by the standard AutoSet algorithm. Concretely, AutoSet for Her adjusts pressure faster and more subtly to better treat female respiratory patterns. Activate it on your AirSense 11 in the settings if your prescriber recommended it.
At VivaRespire, For Her masks are at the same price as classic versions: €130-160 for P10 and Swift FX, €150-180 for Mirage FX and F20. ResMed does not apply a "pink tax", unlike many gendered products. It's not a marketing argument — it's a genuinely adapted product.
No direct equivalent. Philips and F&P offer masks with multiple sizes (XS/S/M/L) that cover female morphologies but no dedicated range. The For Her range is exclusive to ResMed. If you prefer Philips or F&P, choose size S with a compact cushion (e.g. F&P Evora nasal, very compact, or DreamWisp in S).
Yes. ResMed For Her masks use a standard 22 mm connector and work with any CPAP: Philips DreamStation, Löwenstein prisma, Sefam EcoStar. You don't need a ResMed CPAP to use a For Her mask. Only exception: the ResMed AirMini requires specific "for AirMini" masks (the AirFit P10 for AirMini exists in standard version; the standard P10 For Her is not AirMini-compatible).
